Pushing Beyond My Comfort Zone

I wanted to push out of my comfort zone by drawing and using faces in my work . I like to draw on paper but drawing on canvas and using paints are difficult for me. I wanted to do this project on canvas because I normally work on paper. I tried to draw this girl straight onto the canvas but it did not work. So I transfered a drawing I did to colored paper and then layered her into the collage. I'm not too happy with how I drew her face. I know I need to improve on that skill. Maybe this was too ambitious for me.

  1. I think it turned out very well. I like the sideways glance :)

  2. Self critique, knowing what you were going for... is important. But from an outside perspective I'd say it was a success. And what is that they say about trial and error. The only way to get good at drawing painting faces etc. is to do it. :) Bravo.

  3. Came over from IMT.....I think she looks great! Yeah, drawing on canvas is not an easy task. Have you tried drawing on paper first and then using transfer paper (like Saral brand) to transfer your drawing to your canvas? I do that all the time. :) Here's a link in case you've never used it before...

  7. Titration is right. To be really good at anything general requires you first do it and then do it again and again. This was a fabulous first effort. Great job keep going with it!

  8. I think you did a great job and the collage works really well with it. I think one minor draw back of stepping out of the comfort zone is the first time you try something it may not come out the way you envisioned but that doesn't mean it isn't great. Just pushes you more outside of the box sometimes.
