Green House in the City

Here is my entry for Dans Ma Maison Il ya
We are to use green in our house. Mine is a green jungle house in the city. Just another 8x10 canvas, using papers, gesso, green paint, yellow paint, ink, and some doodles. I love this theme... to decorate a house each week.

Doodle at the Coast

I'm submitting this for Mixed Media Monday's
challenge By the Sea.

I am back from my vacation to Port A. I love the coast. Here is a little doodle I did. I think it is whimsical enough for the prompt at IMT. I started doodling this crazy sunflower girl in all sorts of situations. She is just for fun. Something I do very absent minded. I scanned it in photo shop and played around with it. I think it turned out to be a good practice in photo shop.
And by the way none of us surf.

On Vacation

This weeks challenge at Mixed Media Monday is to use maps in your work. I don't have time to do what I want, so here is a scan of my neck of the woods. I am on vacation this week. We are going to my beloved Texas Coast, Port Aransas Texas. Whoo hoo.... See you next week.

Widen My Vision

God open my eyes
so I may see
And feel Your presence
close to me.
Give me strength
for my stumbling feet
As I battle the crowd
on life's busy street,
And widen the vision
of my unseeing eyes
So in passing faces
I'll recognize
Not just a stranger,
unloved and unknown,
But a friend with a heart
that is much like my own.
Give me perception
to make me aware
That scattered profusely
on life's thoroughfare
Are the best Gifts of God
that we daily pass by
As we look at the world
with an unseeing eye.
Helen Steiner Rice

I am inspired today to share this poem. It is from a lovely little book of poems by Helen Steiner Rice. I found it when we were cleaning out my Mom's home. My Mom is now in a wonderful assisted living home, and we finally sold her house. It is sad but at the same time I feel blessed. She has 24 hour care and finances are taken care of. Some of God's best gifts are ones we take for granted. I love this little book and am so happy I stumbled upon it. Sometimes I am a little uneasy talking about personal things like these, but hopefully this little poem will touch others like it has me.

Doors & A Little Girl

Here is my collage entry for IMT doors. I was inspired by the challenge at dans ma maison ilya, une petite fille also. I used a ticket which was prompted by the 4x4 friday site. However it is not a 4x4 collage so it probably will not qualify. But anyway I tried to incorporate all three into one piece. This is an 8x10 canvas. I used old papers, old photos, scrap papers, gesso and ink.

New look

I have been changing the look of my blog for the past week. I finally figured out how to get the correct size for the banner. I really like the new name... Art Happens. I liked Mycreativespace also but felt it was too cliche. Just sounded too much like my space. I like the name art happens because it is how I feel most often. Sometimes art happens and sometimes it doesn't. I am not sure the art work for the banner is all that, but I am just learning, so it will have to do for awhile. At least I figured out the size. Now I can play around with the artsy part of it.

Transparency Dad in Army

Here is my entry for Mixed Media Monday.
This is a scrapbook page of my Dad in the army. I did this about 5 years ago when I first got into scrapping. I made the photos of the Arc de Triomphe and Norte Dame into transparencies. This, however, is not how the page looks in person. When I scanned it into the computer, I did not like it at all. It's way too plain, so I went to work in photoshop. All I did was smudge it up a little with a brush. I think it looks more like a collage now.

Mixed Media Monday ....Paint

Mixed Media Monday's challenge for the week is to use paint somehow in the project. I decided to use gesso and black paint on my collage. This is an 8 x 10 canvas. The black paint is used only on the outside edges. This was a lot of fun to work on. I am inspired by Claudine Hellmuth's work and took a few tips from her while doing this. I hope my mother-in -law (God rest her soul) is happy with this piece. I found this picture of her and knew one day I would find a way to display it.
