Altered Art Journal Letter E
E for Eiffel....ok so it's probably most girls dream to go to Paris and see the Eiffel tower. It's been mine for a long time and one of these days I'll get there. But it's rather discouraging because so many people tell me " Why do you want to go to France? The people there hate Americans. It's so expensive! Now is not the time to go. You will be disappointed. I lived there, they are such snobs." This is what I get from people when I tell them my dream is to go to Paris. It's mostly men of course. Never met a woman or girl who does not want to go to Paris. So here is the next installment in my altered art journal......E for Eiffel.

Charlie, you absolutely need to go to Paris! I treated myself for my 40th birthday and enjoyed every minute of it. Just like any where else you go you will run into snobby people and you run into friendly people. The French seem to like it if you at least attempt a little French even if it's just bon jour or merci. You walk every where and every thing is just so fun to look at. The food is fabulous and three years ago the cost wasn't any more than going somewhere in the states. Might be a little more now but you don't need a car and you can find deals for hotels. Just go off season. I can even give you the name of where I stayed if you want.
ReplyDeleteYour E page is pretty by the way.
Charlie...
ReplyDeleteWho cares what they say...I WANT to go to...and was stopped dead in my tracks from going several years ago and I will not make the mistake again of listening to others...MY GOAL: My 60th birthday GIFT to ME from ME!(3 more years from now...unless the opportunity presents itself before that ....I AM LEAVING ON A JET PLANE!!
KEEP YOUR DREAMS ALIVE!
I give you "e" for excellent on your work -- eiffel is good...and if your heart's desire is to go to Paris?! Make it happen!! Life is too short to deny yourself!
ReplyDeleteI agree with all comments above. Keep in mind others speak from their perspective. Yours will not necessarily be the same. I have been to Paris several times and have found 99% the people to be absolutely wonderful. But then I watch other Americans walk up to a Parisian and speak to them in English with the expectation the will respond and I’m not surprised they have poor experiences. If someone walked up to be on the river walk speaking French with that same attitude I would give them a dirty look and walk way too. If you are open to the culture, people and language you will find Paris one of the best cities in the world. Especially for someone with an artist flare like you.
ReplyDeleteSorry to go on so. I obviously have a strong opinion on this one.
Thanks all of you for these comments of encouragement. I agree with everything you have said.I need to set a goal, save the money and just go. Evan if it is by myself.
ReplyDeleteCharlie...
ReplyDeleteI did not go to Paris when I had the opportunity to go because I let others talk me out of it...I allowed the influence of others to control what I truly wanted to do...Now, with that being said...I went to Hawaii instead...not the same feel but certainly a memory that I hold dear...I will not allow outside influences this time around...and YES even if I have to go by myself..Or perhaps if all else fails...You and I will go together!!
Charlie, I looked up the hotel we stayed at and it is Best Western Le Nouvel Orleans http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187147-d229581-Reviews-Best_Western_Le_Nouvel_Orleans-Paris_Ile_de_France.html. Trip Advisor is a great site for reading reviews and price ranges. Wow, prices are up this year. When I went in January 05 it was a little over $500 for the week. It's a good bit more now for that time of year but everything is. This hotel had wonderful people. The rooms were small but nicely decorated and clean. It's not right in the middle of all the sites but it is in a nice area and there is a bus station and rail station right there which made it quick and easy to get around. There was a wonderful restaurant down the street a couple blocks that we ate at almost every night. If you end of staying there or in that area I'll get you the name of it. Ah, Paris! I want to go back.
ReplyDeletei wish i could go to! Who cares what they think, go have fun!
